Day one continued

After lunch, we created dyes from the various plants.  By the end of the day we had created 18 colors from 9 plant materials each mixed with 2 different mordants.  The big surprise to me was that you could not predict what color you would produce by looking at the plant.  This was some type of magic.  Especially considering that I had just spent several hours foraging for plants and stirring giant pots over fires,  I was pretty sure it was some type of witchcraft.  I liked it!

DAy TWO

On Day Two, we created after-baths with 3 different minerals salts to modify the colors we had made the day before.   We would expand from 18 colors to 72 colors of each fiber giving us each a total of 216 samples.   This is truly a magical process and the part that I found the most amazing is how well natural dyes goes with each other.    My head was spinning and my heart was filling!
